Eleanor Roosevelt Bust

Groton School – Groton, MA
2021
Groton School reached out to us to create additional busts for the iconic Schoolroom, which was the original schoolhouse. The new subjects of Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, and Eleanor Roosevelt were chosen in order to diversify the existing selection of busts which were all portraits of white men. The student body was instrumental in making this project a priority. A ceremony celebrated the new additions and the school’s forward momentum.
Roosevelt (1884-1962) was an activist, political figure, and first lady of the U.S. during her husband’s four terms in office who achieved much for human rights during her career. In the portrait, her facial expression and composure illustrate her intelligence and the strides she made for women.
